Paraprofessional Meeting

North Birmingham Regional Library

 

 

 

Meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m.

 

Announcements

Russell Lee announced that 16th Street Baptist Church will host a unity program Saturday, January 31st  from 9-2.  The speakers for this occasion will be Jimmy Carter and Marian Wright.  Registration is available online.

 

Darnita Marsall introduced Barbara Holland as the new team member at Avondale Regional Library.

 

Edith Major introduced Crystal Morton as the new team member in Administration.

 

Debbie Dahlin want everyone to look at the quizzes that are sent out each month and take some time to complete them.  Prizes will be given away.  The purpose is to introduce the databases that are available online.

 

Linda Wilson demonstrated the use of a mono-mouse, by simply plugging it in to your existing television and srolling it over the test you wish to read. BPL is taking part in a trial program of the monomouse. Presently, there are two available to be checked out for 3 weeks.  Handouts will be distributed to various locations. If more are needed contact Tonya in PR.

 

Edith Major spoke about changes at the Alabama State Employment Center.  Mr. Willie Wilson will be retiring on Feb 1, 2009.  The two new contacts for library jobs are Sarah Owens and Leon Cotton.  The State Employment center will be closing (date unknown). The office will be moving to Jeff State and Lawson State.  Since the office will be closing, libaries should expect an increase in patrons looking for information on job searches.

 

Edith also brought up the number of applicants to accepts for Library Assistant I job openings. It was decided that if there are at least 3 in house applicants that meet the requirements choose your top three outside applicants for interviewing. 

 

Renee admonished everyone that when hiring someone for a position choose the very best. 

 

Remember these are deparate and difficult times. If things get to hard to handle, talk to your supervisor, take an extra break.
