The meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m.
Announcements:
Russell announced that Gus is the United Way representative until November.
Darnita asked a question about the rating review stars that are on the public
catalog for book and non book materials. Debbie stated that all reviews are
previewed before posting.
Irene announced about the Local Authors event that will be held November 30th –
December 1st. Fliers have been distributed and you can e-mail her at
Irene@bham.lib.al.us or call 226-3726 until 5:30 p.m.
Michelle Devins – RLCC/Trainer for Jefferson County – If your library is
interested in training, check with your dept/branch head to schedule. She will
come to your location.
Michelle demonstrated kid friendly websites. She also distributed a handout of
Kid Friendly Databases and Quick Guide and will gladly take additional sites
that aren’t on the list. Some of the websites she demonstrated are: Web
Junction Alabama, Britannica Learning Zone, Compton’s by Britannica’s Middle
School and other database features.
Caleb West demonstrated how Output Measures would work beginning the week of
Sept 10th. Most paraprofessionals are contacts for their location. A training
session pertaining to Output Measures will be held next Wednesday, August 29th
at the Central Library.
Output Measures forms will be e-mailed to the contact person.
Caleb also demonstrated how to look at upcoming DVDs list on Midwest Tapes. If
the title is in blue that means that it is on the system. If it is in red that
means it is not on the system.
Remember to register for the next Lead Training course. It is required course
and Debbie will be the presenter.
Wanda McGinnis define teen (ages 12-18). She gave examples of how teens
volunteer at Springville Road library and the impact they have on helping the
staff.
Next month, Le@d training course, Library Privacy and Confidentiality: Law and
Policy, is required and will be presented by Debbie Dahlin.
