Paraprofessional Minutes
October 24, 2007
North Birmingham Regional Library
The meeting was called to order @ 9:08 a.m.
No announcements
Gus Jones, BPL ambassador for United Way, made a presentation to encourage
everyone to give. Other staff helped him to make his presentation were: Sandra
Crawley, Mary B. Newbill, William Darby, Darnita Marshall, and Marti Ball. We
were entertained by some of BPL Shining Stars that included: Kenny Padgett,
Monica Slater, Kathy Roper, and Sherolyn Jones escorted by Leonette Jackson.
After each Shining Star performed, the group was asked to vote by applause, the
top two performers. The winners were: Kathy Roper and Kenny Padgett. It was a
hard decision because all of the performers were super dynamic. Gus explained
the rules: 1) the top two performances will be on BPL YouTube to view and decide
who’s the best and 2) the United Way pledge forms will come in an envelope, on
the front of the envelope, cast your vote for one BPL Shinning Star, either
Kathy or Kenny. 3) return the envelope with your vote and pledge. The person
with the most votes will be the winner.
Debbie gave out blue slips of paper and asked for suggestions for future
training that paraprofessionals would be of interest. These suggestions will be
taken under consideration. If you did not turn in your suggestion today, please
send them to Debbie or Jane either by e-mail or interoffice mail.
The two presenters for Providing Excellent Customer Service in a Multicultural
Environment, Tina Samuel and Karen Clark did a magnificent job summarizing this
topic. Tina performed the power point presentation while Karen spoke about
diversity and cultural patrons that adorn our libraries. It was very well
presented and outlined.
Next month: Kathy Roper will present Info Age Etiquette.
Next meeting will be November 28th @ Central
Meeting was adjourned.
