Paraprofessional Meeting Minutes
North Birmingham Public Library
February 28, 2007
Debbie Dahlin called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.
No announcements were made.
Debbie asked about the VHS project and reminded everyone not to worry about item records that are lost/billed because they will be removed in about 3 years.
No one announced that they were having any problems with the project.
LE@D Training
Debbie asked if anyone was experiencing any trouble with the training.
Several people had problems logging in. Some wanted to know why you have to register for each course if you were already assigned a user name and password. Someone had problems printing their certificate from the terminal they were using but could later print it from another terminal.
The LE@D Courses for Paraprofessional can be found on the bplonline.org/intranet in the left margin under What’s New.
Donna McMedicus @ Springville Road stated that after taking the course, she appreciated learning how to care for the library except that at her library, staff would eat Taco Bell and drinking Slurppies at their desk and in front of patrons.
All Paraprofessionals must take either Harnessing the Internet (BPLHTI) or Volunteers: Recruitment (BPLVOL) by the March meeting (3/22). Hunter Murphy and Michelle Shelton will lead the discussion on these sessions.
Make sure the popup blocker is disabled on your computer. Your computer must have JavaScript 1.4 & above installed.
Debbie will compile the list of course participants and will send the names to Linda Wilson. You will not have to fill out a training form after completing these courses.
Downloadable Audios
JCLC intranet now has links to assist patrons/staff who are having trouble downloading audios. To access go to: jclc intranet→link → jclcdownloadables.pbwiki.com→common problems & solution
Other information about downloadable audios was discussed. Also, attendees were given a tour of other links that would assist patrons/staff with downloadable audios. For instance, if you are looking for Newest/Popular selections choose OVERDRIVE (512 + growing); GOOD, SOLID, BEEN AROUND AWHILE selections choose NETLIBRARY (1409 with 30 per month added). These two will give you titles to make your selections.
Debbie also went over each section in the grid.
Don’t choose radio quality (not available).
An online guided tour has been added. When you click on the picture, chose a link and listen to the instructions. Right now videos & music are not downloadable.
Central, Five Points West, and Springville Road will have downloadable stations.
Central’s downloadable station is located in the Fiction Dept.
Meeting was adjourned.
